Bandipora, Jan 4: Three soldiers lost their lives, and two others sustained critical injuries after an Army vehicle plunged into a deep gorge in the SK Payeen area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Saturday, officials said.
According to an official, the vehicle veered off the Bandipora-Srinagar road near SK Payeen and fell into the gorge. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and retrieved the injured personnel, who were immediately shifted to the district hospital in Bandipora.
“Three soldiers were declared dead on arrival at the hospital, while two critically injured soldiers are being moved to Srinagar for advanced treatment,” the official said.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances leading to the accident, which occurred on a stretch of road known for its treacherous terrain.
