Jammu: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah marked the festival of Lohri by celebrating with his security team at his residence in Jammu. Sharing a heartfelt message on X, the Chief Minister highlighted the significance of Lohri, which traditionally symbolizes the beginning of the harvest season and the end of winter’s coldest days.
“Lohri has traditionally marked the beginning of the harvest & the end of the coldest days of winter. Fires are lit & peanuts, popcorn & local sweets are thrown in to the fire to celebrate. Lohri brings with it a sense of renewal & change. I wish everyone celebrating today a very happy Lohri. I was fortunate to be able to join my security team in Jammu to celebrate Lohri with them,” wrote Abdullah.
Along with his message, the Chief Minister shared photographs on his social media handle, showing himself offering ‘arg’ into the traditional Lohri fire as part of the celebration. The pictures captured a sense of unity and warmth, as Abdullah joined his security team in this festive ritual, which included the customary lighting of the fire and sharing of traditional treats.
