Lt Governor B D Mishra Leads Republic Day Celebrations in Ladakh, Urges Youth to Drive Development

Leh, Jan 26: Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Brigadier (Retd) B D Mishra unfurled the national flag at Polo Ground Leh on Republic Day, urging citizens, particularly the youth, to pledge their commitment to making Ladakh the most developed Union Territory in the country.

Expressing heartfelt wishes to the people of Ladakh, the Lt Governor began his address by lauding the posthumous recognition of Late Lama Lobzang with the prestigious Padma Shri Award, emphasizing that the honor underscores Ladakh’s deep commitment to social welfare and development.

Highlighting Development and Sustainability
Mishra detailed the region’s strides across various sectors, emphasizing a vision of a prosperous and sustainable Ladakh. Key achievements included the creation of five new districts and significant progress toward carbon neutrality. He also spoke about advancements in education, health, tourism, and infrastructure.

The LG spotlighted several flagship projects, including the removal of diesel generators from most areas, progress on the 220 KV transmission systems, and the establishment of a green corridor project. Efforts to improve educational opportunities, launch skill development programs, and promote winter sports were also highlighted as transformative initiatives.

Key Milestones and Achievements
Mishra acknowledged achievements in rural infrastructure, health management, and employment. He celebrated the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission, the establishment of a medical college in Ladakh, and initiatives like the Khelo India Winter Games, which aim to position Ladakh as a premier destination for tourism and sports.

The Lt Governor also commended the winners of the newly established UT Awards, recognizing five individuals each from Leh and Kargil districts for their outstanding contributions to the region’s growth and development. These awards, he noted, were designed to inspire individuals to play a pivotal role in their communities.

A Call for Unity and Progress
Emphasizing the need for unity and cooperation, Mishra urged the people of Ladakh to work collectively toward building a corruption-free and delay-free administration. He appealed to the youth to take an active role in shaping Ladakh’s future and ensuring its development into a model Union Territory.

In his concluding remarks, the Lt Governor reaffirmed his dedication to the welfare of Ladakh’s citizens. He pledged to work tirelessly in collaboration with both Leh and Kargil districts to drive sustained growth and development in the region.
