Jammu, Mar 2: Tragedy struck in Jammu and Kashmir as two minor girls were found dead in a rainwater-filled trench in Samba district, while a nine-year-old boy lost his life in a road accident on Sunday, officials said.
The bodies of Asiya (10) and Tahira (9) were recovered from a ditch in Lower Birpur, Bari Brahmana area of Samba. The girls, belonging to nomadic families from Anantnag, had been grazing their animals when they went missing on Saturday evening. Despite extensive searches, they remained untraced until their bodies were found in the trench.
Preliminary investigations suggest the girls may have accidentally fallen into the water and drowned, though the exact cause of death will be determined after a post-mortem examination, officials said.
In a separate incident, nine-year-old Pranev Sharma was killed when a scooty, driven by his father, collided with an army crane in Patyari, Bishnah on the outskirts of Jammu. While the child died on the spot, his father sustained injuries and was hospitalized.
