J&K Govt Denies Reports on Increase in Liquor Vends, Calls Them Baseless
Srinagar, Mar 12: The Office of the Chief Minister, Jammu & Kashmir, on Tuesday dismissed reports claiming an increase in liquor vends in the region, labeling them “fake and baseless.”
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the CM’s Office stated: “No new liquor vends are being advertised or allotted by my government. TV channels & news portals should immediately stop peddling this lie.”
The statement clarified that the total number of wine shops (JKEL-2 vends) remains 305 since the 2023-24 financial year, with 291 in Jammu and 14 in Kashmir. It further explained that the ongoing e-auction process pertains only to existing vends, with 271 already allotted, while 34 will be re-auctioned on March 17, 2025.
The CM’s Office urged media outlets to verify facts before publishing misleading reports and advised the public to refer to the Excise Department’s official website (https://jkexcise.nic.in) for accurate information.
