J&K Waqf Board Chairperson Darakhshan Andrabi Dismisses Concerns Over Waqf Law, Stresses Properties are Secure

SRINAGAR, APRIL 17: BJP leader and Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Darakhshan Andrabi, on Thursday stated that there is no confusion among the common people of the Union Territory regarding the newly enacted Waqf law, and that only certain politicians are raising concerns.

Andrabi reaffirmed that Waqf properties, including mosques, shrines, and graveyards in Jammu and Kashmir, are secure and face no threat, dismissing the rising concerns as politically motivated attempts to mislead the public.

“People who are genuinely connected with the dargahs, mosques, and the path of faith have no issues with the Waqf Act,” she said, addressing reporters in Anantnag. “It is only the politicians who are confused and trying to use this issue for their own benefit.”

She assured that the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board is functioning transparently and managing its properties in accordance with the law. “For the past three years, the functioning of the Board has been visible to the public, and everything is being managed as per law and faith,” she added.

When questioned about the ongoing petitions challenging the Waqf (Amendment) Act 2025 before the Supreme Court, Andrabi emphasized that the Constitution and the law provide a platform for anyone seeking redressal through legal channels. “This is a democracy, and the courts are open to everyone,” she said.

She also affirmed that the bill, having been passed in Parliament, will be implemented regardless of challenges. “Those who want to approach the Supreme Court can do so, but no one can stop the law from being implemented,” she concluded.
