JDA Official Caught Red-Handed Taking Bribe, Arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau

JAMMU, July 18: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday arrested a Junior official of the Jammu Development Authority (JDA) for accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from a complainant in Ballian Domana area of Jammu.

According to officials, the ACB received a complaint alleging that the official, identified as Kewal Krishan, demanded an illegal gratification of ₹20,000 to permit further construction of a double-storey building. The accused had agreed to accept ₹10,000 as the first installment of the demanded bribe.

Unwilling to pay the bribe, the complainant approached the ACB, which conducted a discreet verification of the allegation. The verification corroborated the demand for a bribe, following which FIR No. 14/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 was registered at ACB Police Station Jammu.

Subsequently, a trap team headed by a Gazetted Officer was constituted. The team laid a successful trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. He was immediately arrested after following due legal procedures.

The bribe money was recovered from his possession on the spot, and a search operation was also launched at his residence located in Flore Haramkund Gajansoo, Tehsil Marh, District Jammu, in the presence of a Magistrate and independent witnesses.

The ACB said that further investigation is underway.
