Four Injured, Yatra Route Suspended After Landslide Hits Vaishno Devi Path Near Banganga

Katra, July 21: A landslide hit the Vaishno Devi Yatra route near Banganga on Sunday, leaving four pilgrims injured and triggering a temporary suspension of the traditional pilgrimage path. The landslide occurred near a shed area, where several people were feared trapped under the debris.

Four individuals were rescued from the site by Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel and were immediately shifted to Katra hospital for treatment. Their condition is reported to be stable.

Rescue operations are ongoing, with men and machinery working tirelessly to clear the debris and ensure that no more individuals remain trapped. The traditional Yatra route has been temporarily suspended as a safety measure.

Senior officers of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Jammu and Kashmir Police are present on the spot, personally overseeing the rescue efforts and coordinating response actions.

A senior police official at the scene said, “Our teams acted swiftly and managed to rescue four individuals who were injured in the incident. They have been shifted to Katra hospital. The area is being thoroughly checked to ensure safety before the Yatra route can be reopened.”

Pilgrims have been urged to remain cautious and follow official advisories, especially as the region remains vulnerable to landslides due to persistent rainfall.
