People of J&K Want Progress, Must Not Allow Space to Fringe Elements: Kiren Rijiju

Srinagar, Jul 27: Union Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Sunday said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir aspire for development and peace, and urged society to remain vigilant against “fringe elements” who attempt to disturb the region’s harmony.

Speaking at the Mega Alumni Meet 2025 of the University of Kashmir, Rijiju lauded the positive outlook of the people of the Union Territory and said they have already shown the way forward through their aspirations for growth and stability.

“I have seen that the people of J&K are extremely positive. They want to progress and they have shown the way,” the minister said.

However, Rijiju cautioned against disruptive forces that occasionally try to derail peace in the region.

“Fringe elements make efforts to create disturbances from time to time. We must not allow them any space,” he said, adding that many such elements originate from outside the country.

Highlighting the role of academia in shaping the region’s future, Rijiju said the University of Kashmir and its alumni have the power to influence the narrative in a constructive direction.

“This university can do much more than what it has done so far. We can’t brush aside the minority or fringe elements because it only takes a few attempts by negative forces to create unrest in society,” he noted.

Calling for collective responsibility, the minister urged people to stand united and contribute towards lasting peace and inclusive development in Jammu and Kashmir.
