KUPWARA, July 28: Security forces on Monday apprehended a terrorist associate and recovered a large cache of arms and ammunition during a joint Cordon and Search Operation (CASO) in Marsary village of Chowkibal area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
A police spokesperson said the operation was launched based on specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of a terror associate in the area. The joint operation involved 05 PARA, 160 Territorial Army, 98 Bn CRPF, Special Operations Group (SOG) Kralpora, and the local police from Police Station Kralpora.
During the search operation, one individual identified as Wali Mohd Mir, son of Mohd Sadiq Mir and resident of Marsary, was apprehended. A subsequent search led to the recovery of a significant cache of arms and ammunition, including:
- One AK-56 rifle
- Three AK-56 magazines
- 1,150 rounds of AK-56 ammunition
- Seventeen UBGL (Under Barrel Grenade Launcher) grenades
Preliminary investigations suggest that the accused was working as a terrorist associate for proscribed outfits, helping facilitate the transportation of arms and ammunition to active terrorists operating in the region.
A case under FIR No. 53/2025 has been registered at Police Station Kralpora, and further investigation is underway.
