Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday toured flood-affected areas of Anantnag and Kulgam districts in south Kashmir to assess damages caused by recent heavy rains and floods.
Direct Interaction with Affected Families
In Anantnag, the CM visited localities such as Mehandi Kadal, Janglaat Mandi, Deva Colony, Ashajipora Bridge, and other flood-hit zones. He interacted with affected families, assuring them of the government’s full support and pledging all possible measures for relief and rehabilitation.
Officials Accompanying the CM
Omar Abdullah was accompanied by Deputy CM Surinder Kumar Choudhary, Ministers Sakina Itoo and Javed Ahmad Rana, Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani, and local MLAs. Residents in Ganjiwara raised demands for the completion of the flood shed pump and repairs of interior roads and drainage in Eidgah Colony.
High-Level Review Meeting in Anantnag
Later, the CM chaired a high-level review meeting attended by top officials, including DC Anantnag and SP Anantnag. The DC provided a detailed briefing on flood damage, rescue efforts, shelter arrangements, and immediate restoration work.
Focus on Restoration and Public Health
CM Omar directed officials to prioritise restoration, especially of Jal Shakti Department infrastructure, due to its critical link to public health. He also stressed the need for effective coordination among departments like PHE, PDD, and R&B to restore essential services.
Damage Assessment and Long-Term Planning
The CM called for forming special teams to assess damage to homes, crops, and stranded fruit-laden trucks, and to prepare compensation proposals for the Centre. He underlined the importance of long-term flood management, including dredging, dewatering systems, and strengthening embankments.

The Chief Minister also visited flood-affected areas in Kulgam, including Khudwani, Aadigatnoo, Gudder, Laisoo, and nearby localities. He met with affected families and inspected damaged infrastructure firsthand.
Officials Brief CM on Relief Efforts
Accompanied by senior ministers and local officials, Omar Abdullah chaired a meeting at the Mini Secretariat Kulgam. DC Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan detailed early evacuation efforts, damage to roads and utilities, and ongoing restoration initiatives.
Appreciation and Directives
The CM appreciated the district administration’s proactive response and urged departments to restore essential services in “mission mode.” He directed immediate assessment of losses in agriculture and horticulture sectors, including transport-related damages, for compensation.
Crackdown on Illegal Mining
Expressing concern over illegal mining in the district, CM Omar ordered strict enforcement to curb the practice completely.
Commitment to the Public
Reiterating his government’s commitment, the Chief Minister assured that every possible step would be taken to support the affected families and rebuild the damaged infrastructure.
