JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 15: Traffic Police Jammu today booked three cab drivers for violating the Traffic Headquarters advisory and overcharging passengers on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44).
According to officials, a traffic naka was set up at Jagti near IIM Jammu to enforce the day’s advisory permitting only down-movement of vehicles. Around 10 am, three commercial Swift cars — bearing registration numbers JK06C-0915, JK17A-6305, and JK17A-6364 — were intercepted and found transporting passengers towards Doda-Kishtwar in violation of the advisory and charging fares above the approved rate.
The drivers allegedly misbehaved with traffic cops and refused to produce documents. They were immediately detained and taken to Police Station Nagrota. The accused have been identified as Abdul Gafoor of Bhala, Gandoh; Aqib Hussain Bhat of Berwar, Kishtwar; and Mohammad Tayab of Chatroo, Kishtwar.
An FIR (No. 195/2025) under Sections 132/126(2) BNS and 177/179/201 of the Motor Vehicles Act has been registered at Police Station Nagrota. The vehicles involved have also been seized.
Traffic Police appealed to commuters to strictly follow advisories and avoid hiring unauthorized transporters, warning that any violation or overcharging would invite stringent action.
