Amritsar, Sep 18: In a major breakthrough against cross-border narcotics trafficking, the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) on Thursday seized nearly 26 kilograms of heroin along with a pistol and arrested a smuggler near Beharwal village in Amritsar district.
Officials said the operation was carried out during a joint naka based on specific intelligence inputs. A motorcyclist was intercepted and detained, leading to the recovery of a large bag containing 23 packets of suspected heroin, weighing 25.9 kg, and a pistol with two magazines.
The contraband, suspected to have been airdropped by drone from across the border, was seized along with the smuggler’s motorcycle and an iPhone 14. The arrested individual has been identified as a resident of Beharwal village.
The accused, along with the recovered items, has been handed over to ANTF Amritsar for further investigation and legal action.
Security agencies described the seizure as a significant success, reflecting BSF’s heightened vigilance and determination to curb the menace of cross-border drug smuggling.
