Three Gangsters Arrested After Gunfight with Police in Kathua

JAMMU, Oct 8: Three gangsters were arrested after a brief gunfight with police in Kathua district on Wednesday, officials said.

The suspects were riding a motorcycle from the Punjab border side when intercepted by police for a routine check in Lakhanpur. They allegedly opened fire and attempted to flee, prompting police to fire warning shots and give chase.

During the pursuit, the motorcycle lost balance and collided with an electricity pole near Kidian Ghadiyal bridge, leaving the suspects injured. They were subsequently arrested and taken to Government Medical College Hospital, Kathua.

Police identified one of the arrested as Murad Ali, wanted in four cases in Kathua district. Further investigation is underway to determine links with inter-state gangs and potential criminal networks in the region.

Authorities have tightened security along Lakhanpur, a strategic corridor connecting Jammu and Punjab, following the incident.
