KATRA, Jun 5: With the annual Shri Amarnath Yatra 2026 set to commence in the coming weeks and the number of pilgrims visiting the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine witnessing a steady rise, security agencies have placed the entire Katra region and pilgrimage track under heightened security cover.

Authorities have stepped up surveillance and intensified security arrangements from Katra to the holy cave shrine, deploying additional personnel and advanced monitoring systems to ensure the safety of thousands of devotees visiting the shrine every day.
Officials said the security grid has been strengthened significantly in view of the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and the increased footfall at the Vaishno Devi shrine during the ongoing summer vacation period. Pilgrims from different parts of the country continue to arrive in large numbers, prompting security agencies to maintain a high state of alert.

Sensitive locations, including Katra Bus Stand, Katra Railway Station, Banganga, Adhkuwari, Sanjichhat and the Bhawan area, have witnessed enhanced deployment of security forces. Personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and CISF have been deployed at strategic points, while regular patrols are being conducted along the pilgrimage route.
To strengthen surveillance, authorities have activated an extensive network of CCTV cameras covering the entire pilgrimage track. In addition, drones are being used to monitor movement in high-altitude and vulnerable areas, providing real-time inputs to security agencies. Officials said the use of technology has significantly enhanced their ability to detect and respond swiftly to any potential threat.

Security checkpoints have been established at multiple locations where pilgrims and vehicles are being subjected to thorough screening. Entry into the Bhawan area is being regulated through strict security checks, while baggage and personal belongings are being scanned using modern security equipment.
Dog squads and bomb disposal units have also been deployed and remain on standby as part of the comprehensive security mechanism. Security agencies are conducting regular area domination exercises and search operations in and around the pilgrimage route to ensure a safe environment for devotees.
Senior officers from the administration and the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board are continuously reviewing the arrangements. Alongside security measures, efforts are also being made to strengthen healthcare facilities, drinking water supply and other essential services for pilgrims.

Officials said all necessary precautions have been taken to ensure that both the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage and the forthcoming Amarnath Yatra are conducted smoothly and peacefully. They appealed to devotees to cooperate with security personnel, follow prescribed guidelines and immediately report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
With thousands of pilgrims expected to visit the region in the coming days, the entire security apparatus remains on high alert, with authorities determined to ensure a safe and hassle-free pilgrimage experience.
