JAMMU, Dec 31: In anticipation of New Year celebrations, the Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Police, National Highways, has issued an advisory urging the public to maintain road discipline and avoid travel during adverse weather conditions.

The advisory, issued by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) for National Highways, Ramban, Rohit Baskotra, highlighted that the New Year festivities are expected to generate significant crowds at hotels, restaurants, clubs, bars, and other venues, especially in major towns and cities.

“Given the expected influx of participants and tourists, particularly during the night, the Traffic Police is taking steps to ensure smooth vehicular movement and safe passage for all visitors celebrating the occasion,” SSP Baskotra said.

The advisory calls on the public to adhere to road safety protocols and refrain from traveling in bad weather conditions. It also emphasized avoiding reckless behaviors such as drinking and driving, using mobile phones while driving, stunt biking, triple riding, underage driving, and overloading.

The advisory further cautioned travelers against venturing into areas prone to landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides, especially along the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and in the hilly regions of Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, Ramban, and Kishtwar districts.

Drivers are urged to plan their journeys carefully, ensuring they follow all traffic rules and regulations. Those traveling through snowy hilly areas are advised to equip their vehicles with anti-skid chains and park in a manner that does not obstruct traffic flow.

Finally, the advisory asks the public to cooperate politely with traffic officials deployed on duty during the holiday period.
