New Delhi/Jammu, Jan 8: The Railway Board has unveiled a specially designed Vande Bharat Express train, equipped to operate seamlessly in the challenging winter conditions of Jammu and Kashmir, for the upcoming Katra-Srinagar rail route.
The route, currently undergoing inspection by the Commissioner of Railway Safety, will soon connect the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country via a modern, high-speed train. The train, stationed at the Shakurbasti coaching depot in New Delhi, has been outfitted with features to address the region’s extreme climate, railway officials said.
Speaking to mediapersons, Dileep Kumar, Executive Director (Information & Publicity) of the Railway Board, detailed the advanced climate-related features incorporated into the train. “It has advanced heating systems to prevent freezing of water tanks and bio-toilet tanks. It also provides warm air for vacuum systems and laboratories, ensuring the air-brake system functions smoothly even in sub-zero temperatures,” Kumar explained.
Additionally, the train boasts embedded heating elements in its windshield to automatically defrost the driver’s front lookout glass, ensuring clear visibility during harsh winter conditions.
Apart from these climate-specific modifications, the train includes all standard Vande Bharat amenities such as fully air-conditioned coaches, automatic plug doors, and mobile charging sockets, ensuring a comfortable travel experience for passengers.
The Railways emphasized that the train is not just a technical achievement but also a symbol of India’s commitment to bridging geographical and economic divides. By enhancing connectivity to the Kashmir Valley, the project is expected to contribute significantly to the region’s development and integration into the national railway network.
