Jammu, Jan 11: Security forces have launched a major anti-terror operation in the Jogwan forest area of Akhnoor sector along the Line of Control (LoC) following reports of suspicious movement by 3-4 suspected terrorists late Thursday night.
According to initial reports, a Village Defence Guard (VDG) spotted the suspects under the Thakkar Bridge, a known infiltration route. The area gained notoriety in October 2024 as the site of a Jaish-e-Mohammed encounter, where three terrorists were neutralized after infiltrating and taking shelter in a temple.
Locals promptly alerted the police, after which security forces cordoned off the area and launched an extensive search operation. Senior officers from the army, police, and other security agencies have arrived at the site to oversee the operation, while special forces have been deployed to comb through the dense terrain.
The situation remains tense, with security agencies on high alert to prevent any infiltration attempts or potential threats in this sensitive border region.
