JAMMU: Keeping his promise, Anand Mahindra, Chairman of the Mahindra Group, handed over the keys of a Mahindra Scorpio N to Sheetal Devi, a trailblazing para-archer and recipient of the prestigious Arjuna Award. This heartfelt gesture celebrates her incredible journey and achievements.
Hailing from Kishtwar, Jammu and Kashmir, Sheetal Devi was born with phocomelia, a rare congenital condition that affected the development of her arms. Undeterred by challenges, she carved her place in history as the world’s first armless female archer, setting benchmarks in para-archery with unparalleled resilience and grit.
Sheetal’s extraordinary accomplishments include receiving the Arjuna Award from President Droupadi Murmu on January 9, 2024, the second-highest sporting honor in India. She clinched gold medals in the individual compound and mixed team events at the 2023 Asian Para Games and secured a silver medal at the World Archery Para Championships, becoming the first armless female archer to achieve such a feat. In addition, she won a bronze medal in the mixed compound archery team event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, earning the distinction of being India’s youngest Paralympic medallist.
Reflecting on the milestone, Sheetal said, “It was exciting to explore the range of Mahindra vehicles and pick one for myself. I’m thrilled to take delivery of my new Mahindra Scorpio N! My heartfelt thanks to the Mahindra Auto team and Anand Mahindra ji for this thoughtful gesture.”
A beacon of inspiration, Sheetal Devi continues to redefine possibilities, proving that determination and perseverance can overcome any challenge.
