Army Chief General Dwivedi Encourages NCC Cadets to Dream Big, Become Leaders of Tomorrow

New Delhi, Jan 9: Recalling his formative years as a National Cadet Corps (NCC) member, Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi on Thursday urged cadets to aspire for greatness and lead India’s transformation as changemakers, innovators, and leaders.

Addressing cadets and officers at the ongoing NCC Republic Day Camp at Delhi Cantonment, General Dwivedi highlighted the impact of the NCC in shaping young minds. “Being part of NCC is a way of life. The formative years as a cadet forge a unique identity, laying the foundation for future achievements,” he said.

He noted the significant contributions of NCC alumni to the armed forces, stating that in 2024, 100 male cadets and 10 female cadets joined pre-commissioning academies through NCC entry schemes, while over 8,800 cadets entered the armed forces as Agniveers.

The Army Chief’s visit included an interaction with cadets in the flag area, where he presented mementos to those delivering exceptional briefings. The event also featured cultural performances, showcasing the cadets’ talents.

“Seeing you proudly donning the NCC uniform makes me nostalgic,” said Gen Dwivedi, recalling his own NCC enrolment number, 73727, and his cherished seven years as a cadet. A proud alumnus of Sainik School Rewa in Madhya Pradesh, he emphasized the value of the NCC Alumni Association.

“Dear cadets, you are not just future leaders but custodians of India’s heritage and progress. Dream big, believe in yourselves, and let determination, hard work, and dedication guide your journey,” he urged.

Commending cadets’ community service efforts in areas such as blood donation, environmental conservation, and social awareness, General Dwivedi encouraged them to demonstrate the strength of youth in nation-building.

The Army Chief expressed pride in an upcoming NCC expedition team aiming to scale Mount Everest, currently training at the Army Mountaineering Institute in Siachen. “I eagerly await the sight of the NCC summit flag atop Everest,” he said.

Highlighting the Army’s robust association with the NCC, Gen Dwivedi noted that over 12,500 army personnel serve as staff for the corps. He also shared that more than 30,000 cadets have trained with army units, including 4,000 cadets attached to military hospitals.

The month-long Republic Day camp, which began on December 30, features 2,361 cadets from across India, including 917 girl cadets—the largest female contingent to date. The camp will conclude with the Prime Minister’s Rally on January 27.

General Dwivedi’s address underscored the NCC’s pivotal role in nurturing leadership and patriotism among India’s youth, inspiring them to strive for excellence and contribute to the nation’s growth story.
