Mendhar/Jammu, Jan 22: Indian Army troops engaged a Pakistani drone that intruded into Indian territory from across the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir early Wednesday, officials said.
The drone, which briefly hovered over an area near the border fence in the Mendhar sector, retreated to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) after being fired upon by alert troops around 1 a.m., officials added. Nearly a dozen rounds were fired to deter the UAV’s movement.
In response to the intrusion, a search operation was launched at daybreak to ensure no weapons or narcotics were airdropped by the drone. Security forces remained on high alert in the area, as the search operation continued until the last reports came in.
Incidents involving drones have been a growing concern along the LoC, often linked to smuggling or attempts to disrupt peace in the region. Wednesday’s interception underscores the vigilance of Indian troops in countering such threats.
