Baramulla, January 10, 2025: In a coordinated operation, Baramulla Police cracked a grenade attack case and arrested three individuals, including a surrendered terrorist, while recovering a cache of weapons and ammunition.
Superintendent of Police for Operations, Feroz Yehya, addressing a press conference, revealed that the attack occurred on January 7, 2025, at around 7:40 PM when a grenade was hurled at the 163 Territorial Army (TA) camp in Hamray Pattan. The grenade struck the camp’s MI structure, causing significant damage but fortunately resulting in no casualties or injuries.
Acting on information from the in-charge of Police Post Palhallan, an investigation was launched immediately. Technical and electronic evidence from the site led to a breakthrough, with a case registered under FIR No. 01/2025. A comprehensive probe under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) was carried out by the joint forces.
Arrests and Recoveries
SP Yehya confirmed that three individuals were arrested during the operation. Their disclosures led to the recovery of:
- One hand grenade
- One AK-series rifle
- One pistol
- 256 AK rounds
- 21 pistol rounds
Among the arrested, one is a surrendered terrorist, the second is the son of another surrendered terrorist, while the third, identified as the mastermind, had been evading arrest in a narco-terror case and was living at a concealed location.
Ongoing Investigation
The police indicated that further arrests and recoveries are expected. “At this stage, we cannot share additional details as it may hamper the ongoing investigation,” SP Yehya said.
Impact on Trust-Building Efforts
The SP emphasized that such incidents threaten the Baramulla Police’s efforts to foster trust and reintegrate surrendered terrorists and their families into society. “This attack jeopardizes trust-building measures and undermines initiatives aimed at achieving lasting peace in the region,” he stated.
In a strong appeal, he urged surrendered terrorists and their families to avoid any involvement in anti-national or terror-related activities. “Such actions not only lead to legal consequences but also erode efforts to rebuild relationships and establish a harmonious environment,” he added.
Acknowledgment and Commitment
SP Yehya expressed gratitude to the district police of Sopore, Bandipora, and the 52 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) for their coordination and support in solving the case. He reaffirmed the Baramulla Police’s commitment to ensuring peace and stability in the region, vowing to take decisive action against any attempts to disrupt it.
