SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 15: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) senior leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Sunil Sharma, on Monday met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi and discussed the prevailing political and security scenario in the Union Territory. He also submitted a detailed ground assessment report on the destruction caused by the recent floods.
During the meeting, Sharma stressed the importance of peace and stability through effective governance, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring people’s participation in the development process. He also flagged internal security concerns and called for coordinated efforts to counter emerging challenges.
Sharma briefed the Home Minister about his extensive visits to flood-affected areas, reporting large-scale damage to roads, schools, healthcare facilities, homes, and crops, as well as the displacement of families. Many remote areas, he said, remain cut off due to broken connectivity and disrupted communication lines.
He urged the Centre to launch a coordinated relief and rehabilitation programme, alongside long-term measures such as climate-resilient infrastructure, stronger disaster response systems, and early warning mechanisms. He also apprised the Home Minister of the relief efforts undertaken by BJP cadres on the ground.
Home Minister Amit Shah assured full support to the people of Jammu & Kashmir, reiterating the Union Government’s commitment to strengthening security, promoting political stability, and enhancing disaster preparedness in the region.
Sharma expressed gratitude to the Home Minister for his guidance and assured close collaboration between the Centre and the Union Territory administration to ensure peace, stability, and timely relief for flood-hit communities.
