CM Omar Abdullah Hails Kashmir University’s Legacy, Urges Alumni to Give Back
SRINAGAR, July 27: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday lauded the University of Kashmir for its academic excellence and far-reaching impact, stating that the institution has kept pace with the finest universities in the country in both research output and alumni achievements.
Speaking at the Mega Alumni Meet-2025 held at the university campus, the Chief Minister called the event a celebration of shared legacy and collective responsibility.
“There are two key indicators of an institution’s success — the quality of its research and the accomplishments of its alumni. The University of Kashmir is second to none in both,” he said.
The meet, one of the largest of its kind, brought together a galaxy of distinguished personalities including Chief Justice of India, Justice B.R. Gavai; Union Minister Kiren Rijiju; Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha; Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court, Justice Arun Palli; and several sitting and former Supreme Court and High Court judges. Vice Chancellor Prof. Nilofer Khan and former Chief Justice of J&K High Court, Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey also addressed the gathering.
Former Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad, MP Mian Altaf Ahmad, and hundreds of alumni from across professions also attended the event, underscoring the university’s wide influence across sectors.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah praised the achievements of the alumni in fields ranging from law, politics and medicine to public service, business, and social development. He appealed to the alumni to stay connected with their alma mater and mentor the next generation.
“Kashmir University has given you a strong foundation. Giving back—even occasionally—through guidance, internships, or knowledge sharing can transform student journeys and inspire excellence,” he added.
He encouraged alumni to become role models and active contributors to the institution’s growth and to help position the university as a beacon of knowledge and leadership.
“Just as you have brought pride to Jammu & Kashmir and to India, let the future students of this university carry forward this legacy,” he said.
The Chief Minister also extended heartfelt congratulations to all alumni who were felicitated for their contributions and accomplishments during the event.
