Jammu, Dec 21: With dense fog continuing to blanket several parts of the region for the past two days, the Traffic Police Rural Jammu on Saturday issued a traffic advisory, urging commuters to remain cautious as visibility drops and the risk of accidents increases.
SSP Traffic Rural Jammu said motorists should drive carefully in foggy conditions by using low-beam headlights or fog lights, slowing down, and keeping a safe distance of at least 4 to 6 seconds from the vehicle ahead. Drivers have also been advised to keep their headlights on, ensure windshields are clean, and use defrosters to prevent fog from forming inside vehicles.
The advisory asks commuters to strictly follow traffic signs, lane markings and cautionary signboards, maintain proper lane discipline, and avoid overtaking, sudden braking or sharp turns. Road users have been cautioned to stay alert for pedestrians, cyclists and slow-moving vehicles, especially during early morning and late evening hours.
Special care has been advised at junctions, flyovers, highway exits and interchanges. The Traffic Police have also urged people to avoid non-essential travel during periods of extremely poor visibility, allow extra time for their journeys, keep mobile phones charged for emergencies, and signal well in advance while braking smoothly.
Traffic Police Rural Jammu has appealed to the public to cooperate and put safety first during foggy weather to help prevent accidents. Commuters can contact the Traffic Police through official helpline numbers or email for assistance or information.
