Jammu, Dec 30: Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary emphasized the strict enforcement of rules and environmental safeguards in mining operations while chairing a review meeting of the Mining Department at the Civil Secretariat.
The meeting, attended by the Director of Mining, Member Secretary of the Forest Advisory Committee, senior officials, and stakeholders, focused on the performance and functioning of the department.
Underscoring the importance of compliance, Choudhary stated, “Any deviation from the established rules and regulations for mining operations will not be tolerated. District mining officers must ensure strict adherence to norms, leaving no room for aberrations.”
He also urged lessees to work in close coordination with the department to prevent violations and ensure accountability. “Lessees must uphold the rules and collaborate with the department to promptly address and rectify any irregularities,” he added.
Highlighting the region’s fragile ecosystem, the Deputy Chief Minister directed officials to prioritize environmental concerns during excavations. “Development must align with environmental safeguards. Preserving our ecosystem is paramount, and every effort should be made to minimize ecological impact,” he stressed.
Choudhary further called for prompt redressal of grievances raised by stakeholders, instructing officials to address their concerns effectively.
The Deputy Chief Minister’s remarks reaffirm the administration’s commitment to sustainable mining practices and environmental preservation in Jammu and Kashmir.
