JAMMU, JANUARY 10: The Deputy Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Surinder Choudhary, alongside the Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, inaugurated the National Aerobic Gymnastics Championship 2024-25 at the New Indoor Stadium, M.A. Stadium in Jammu on Friday.
The championship, organized by the J&K Sports Council in collaboration with the Gymnastics Federation of India and the Gymnastics Association of Jammu & Kashmir, features over 500 athletes and officials from 20 states, union territories, and boards. Running from January 10 to 13, the event aims to engage youth in sports and provide a national and international platform for emerging talent. It is being held for the third time in Jammu and Kashmir as part of the ‘My Youth My Pride’ and ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ campaigns.
In his address, the Deputy Chief Minister expressed pride in hosting the prestigious national event in Jammu and Kashmir. He highlighted the importance of channeling the energy of youth into sports to address societal issues like drug abuse. “The future of our region lies in our youth. By providing opportunities in sports, we can shape promising careers and inspire dreams,” he said. He also commended the organizers and wished the participants the best of luck.
“The government is fully committed to enhancing sports infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, and we are taking active steps to hone the talents of athletes so they can compete on national and international stages,” said the Deputy Chief Minister.
Advisor to the CM, Nasir Aslam Wani, emphasized the vast pool of talent in Olympic sports such as gymnastics, water sports, and martial arts within the region. He expressed confidence that local athletes would excel in upcoming Asian and Olympic competitions. Wani also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening Olympic sports by upgrading infrastructure, training facilities, and coaching to establish Jammu and Kashmir as a sports hub.
Sarmad Hafeez, Secretary of Youth Services and Sports, praised the achievements of J&K’s gymnasts and assured full support for the event’s success.
Sudhir Mittal, President of the Gymnastics Federation of India, thanked the J&K government for its strong support and acknowledged the region’s growing infrastructure and talent in gymnastics.
The event was also attended by Rajinder Singh Tara, Director General of Youth Services and Sports, Nuzhat Gul, Secretary of the Sports Council, Kiran Wattal, Vice President of the Gymnastics Federation of India, and other senior officials.
The championship will run through January 13, offering a thrilling display of athleticism and talent.
