Doda, December 31: In a continued crackdown on absconders, the Doda Police have arrested a man who had been evading arrest for nine years. The accused, identified as Mohd Amran Malla, son of Mohd Afzal Malla of Harpura, Kokernag in Anantnag district, was wanted in connection with a theft case registered under FIR No. 185/2014 under Sections 457/380 RPC at Police Station Doda.
The case, challaned in 2015, had seen Malla declared an absconder by the Hon’ble court, with a general warrant of arrest issued under Section 299 Cr.P.C. Despite efforts, he had managed to elude law enforcement since 2016.
Acting on the directions of SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta (JKPS), a special team was constituted to track the fugitive. The team, led by Inspector Parvaiz Ahmed Khanday, SHO Police Station Doda, and assisted by PSI Ankush Nagra, utilized intelligence sources and technical leads to locate the accused. The operation culminated in his arrest in Jammu. Malla is now being produced before the Hon’ble court.
Notably, the Doda Police have intensified efforts to apprehend wanted criminals, successfully arresting 22 absconders this year alone, including four in December 2024.
SSP Sandeep Mehta issued a stern warning to all absconders in criminal cases across the district, urging them to surrender before the courts to avoid the humiliation of being pursued and arrested. “Justice will be served, and those evading the law will be brought to account,” he stated.
This achievement underscores Doda Police’s commitment to ensuring law and order and holding offenders accountable.
