Ex-Karnataka DGP Om Prakash Found Dead with Stab Wounds in Bengaluru; Family Members Detained

Bengaluru:, April 20: Former Karnataka Director General of Police (DGP) Om Prakash was found dead under mysterious circumstances at his residence in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout on Sunday. He was 68.

The retired IPS officer’s body, bearing multiple stab wounds to the stomach and chest, was discovered lying in a pool of blood. According to the police, a sharp weapon is suspected to have been used in the brutal attack. The incident reportedly took place between 4 and 4:30 pm.

At the time of the incident, his wife Pallavi, daughter, and another family member were present in the house. All three have been detained for questioning. The police control room was alerted by a third party, not present at the scene, who informed authorities about the discovery of the body.

An FIR has been registered on the basis of a complaint filed by Om Prakash’s son.

“Initial investigation suggests the matter may be internal in nature. There are no immediate arrests, but a sharp weapon appears to have caused fatal blood loss,” said Bengaluru Additional Commissioner of Police Vikas Kumar, speaking to reporters.

Sources said that Om Prakash and his wife had frequent domestic quarrels, although no official motive has yet been confirmed.

The deceased officer lived on the ground floor of his three-storey house. His body has been sent for postmortem examination.

Om Prakash, an IPS officer of the 1981 batch, served in several key roles during his career, including as head of Fire and Emergency Services and the Home Guards, before being appointed DGP in March 2015.

Police say further investigation is underway and have not ruled out the possibility of family involvement.
