SRINAGAR, Apr 11: National Conference (NC) president Dr. Farooq Abdullah on Friday welcomed the extradition of 26/11 Mumbai attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana to India, but took a swipe at the BJP-led central government over its long-standing promise of bringing back black money.
“I congratulate them that they at least brought someone back. They were also going to bring back the black money and give ₹15 lakh to everyone, what happened to that?” Abdullah remarked while speaking to reporters in Srinagar.
Commenting on a fatwa issued by Saudi Arabia’s Permanent Committee for Fatwa in September last year, Abdullah said that no Muslim should support the enemies of Islam. He was referring to the religious decree issued amid debates surrounding the “Abrahamic House” concept, which promotes interfaith unity.
“Attempts were being made to create a single book from the Torah, Bible, and Quran, and to merge places of worship of different religions. But the fatwa clearly states that Islam is the final religion, the Quran is the final book, and Prophet Mohammad is the last messenger. Those who support the enemies of Islam are headed for hell, and those who join them will meet the same fate,” he said.
Responding to questions about the PDP’s protest against the recently passed Waqf Amendment Act,
Abdullah said, “It is a good thing. Let them protest. This is a free country.”
On the National Conference’s position, he confirmed that the party would approach the Supreme Court to challenge the Act, joining other voices opposing the legislation.
