Srinagar, Jan 1: The long-cherished dream of connecting Kashmir to the rest of India by rail is on the brink of fulfillment, as Northern Railways has officially announced the commencement of train services between Katra in Jammu and Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir. This milestone in the region’s infrastructure development will soon become a reality, greatly improving connectivity and easing travel for both locals and tourists.
The new train services will feature the advanced Vande Bharat trains alongside Mail/Express trains, representing a leap forward in modernizing the railway network in the region. This development is expected to drastically reduce travel time, provide more comfortable journeys, and offer a scenic experience along the way.

- Vande Bharat Express:
- Departure from Katra (SVDK): 8:10 a.m.
- Arrival in Srinagar: 11:20 a.m.
- Mail/Express (Morning):
- Departure from Katra: 9:50 a.m.
- Arrival in Srinagar: 1:10 p.m.
- Mail/Express (Afternoon):
- Departure from Katra: 3:00 p.m.
- Arrival in Srinagar: 6:20 p.m.
The inauguration of this historic service is set for January 6 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Regular operations of the trains are expected to begin around January 26, in time for Republic Day celebrations.
This rail link will not only make the journey between Jammu and Srinagar much faster and more comfortable but also offer passengers a chance to experience the scenic beauty of the region from the comfort of modern trains.
