SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 15: The Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has arrested a man who posed as a Duty Officer to the Lieutenant Governor and defrauded people of more than ₹50 lakh by promising government jobs and land allotments.
The accused, identified as Abdul Majid Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir, a resident of Lishtiyal, Kupwara, was arrested in connection with FIR No. 10/2025 registered at the Economic Offences Wing of CBK.
Investigations revealed that Mir lured complainants with false assurances of jobs and land in SDA Colony, Bemina. He also issued forged appointment letters purportedly from the Airports Authority of India and fabricated land allotment papers in the name of Srinagar Development Authority.
CBK said offences under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, and 471 of the IPC have been registered against him. The Court of Judicial Magistrate 1st Class, Srinagar, has remanded the accused to five-day police custody for further investigation.
Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant and not fall prey to such fraudulent schemes.
