Srinagar, July 30: Former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad, today met with the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri Manoj Sinha, in Srinagar and discussed a range of pressing issues affecting the people of the Union Territory, with particular focus on long-neglected infrastructure and welfare demands.
A key point of discussion was the inordinate delay in the construction of Chenab House—a crucial facility proposed for the people of erstwhile Doda district, comprising Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban. The project, which has been pending for over a decade, was originally sanctioned during Azad’s tenure as Chief Minister in 2008, with 5 kanals of land allotted for it at Channi Rama, Jammu.
Azad reminded the Lieutenant Governor that the Chenab House was envisioned as a much-needed transit accommodation for patients and their attendants visiting Jammu for emergency medical care, and also as a hostel-like facility for underprivileged students appearing in competitive or academic examinations.
In the meeting, Azad also urged the Lieutenant Governor to replicate such a model for residents of far-flung and mountainous regions like Tangdar and Gurez, which remain physically cut off from the rest of the UT for nearly half the year due to harsh weather and treacherous terrain. He emphasized the need for similar facilities in Jammu to support these marginalized communities during medical or educational visits.
The meeting reflected a serious call for renewed administrative attention towards equitable development and basic civic needs across all corners of Jammu and Kashmir.
