Hans Raj, Stanzin Chondol clinch full marathon titles as 12th Ladakh Marathon concludes

LEH, SEPTEMBER 15: The 12th edition of the Ladakh Marathon concluded in Leh on Sunday with Hans Raj of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh’s own Stanzin Chondol emerging as champions in the men’s and women’s full marathon categories.

Hans Raj clocked 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 41 seconds to win the men’s 42-km race, while Chondol stormed to the women’s title with a time of 3:13:00 — a performance that also placed her sixth overall among men and women combined.

The marathon, which began and ended at NDS Stadium, attracted over 6,600 runners from across India and more than 30 countries, reinforcing its growing stature on the global running calendar.

In the half marathon, Tsetan Namgail secured victory in the men’s section with a timing of 1:13:10, while Stanzin Dolkar won the women’s race in 1:30:14.

The 11.2 km category witnessed close finishes, with Skarma Idong Lanzes taking the women’s crown in 47:30 and Sonam Stanzin edging past Furboo Tundup by just 10 seconds to win the men’s race in 42:39.

In the veterans’ divisions, Tsewang Dorjay and Sarah Hanan-Bajwa topped the men’s and women’s fields respectively in the 11.2K run. Arvind Basaiawmoit and Shilpa Phadke claimed the half marathon titles, while Shyamapada Das and Rita Satish Patkar won the men’s and women’s full marathon categories. Patkar also added the Khardung La Challenge veterans’ crown to her tally.
