SRINAGAR, Sep 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a five-day weather advisory for several districts of Jammu Division, forecasting cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall and thundershowers from September 7 to 11.
According to the bulletin, districts including Jammu, Kathua, Udhampur, Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban are likely to witness spells of rain of varying intensity during the forecast period. The IMD warned that September 7 could bring heavy showers at isolated places in Jammu, Kathua and Udhampur, particularly during evening and night hours, raising the risk of localized flooding and landslides in hilly terrains.
For Jammu district, cloudy skies with light to moderate rainfall have been predicted for September 7 and 8, with weather turning partly cloudy and only occasional light rain from September 9 onwards. Similar conditions are expected in Kathua and Udhampur, though both districts may experience patchy heavy rainfall on September 7 and 8.
In Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban, generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely on September 7 and 8, before clearing gradually to partly cloudy conditions from September 9 to 11.
Officials have cautioned residents in landslide-prone and hilly areas to remain vigilant, as road blockades, waterlogging and mudslides cannot be ruled out during heavy spells. Travelers on the Jammu–Srinagar National Highway and interior routes have been advised to plan their journeys carefully and follow updates from local authorities.
The advisory also urged farmers to protect standing crops from water stagnation and soil erosion, while tourists and locals have been advised to avoid vulnerable riverbanks, streams and unstable slopes until weather conditions improve.
The IMD said its teams are closely monitoring developments, and any significant changes in the forecast will be shared through fresh updates.
