Jammu, August 15: The Nation’s 79th Independence Day was celebrated with great zeal and patriotic spirit across the Jammu division, as colourful functions were held at district, sub-division, and tehsil headquarters.
Doda: The main celebration at the Sports Stadium, Doda, saw District Development Council (DDC) Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal hoist the Tricolour, accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Doda, Sandeep Kumar Mehta. School children, security forces, and NCC contingents participated in a grand parade, while dignitaries including MLA Mehraj Malik and Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh graced the event. Kotwal lauded the district’s developmental strides, including 90% project completion, improved road connectivity, uninterrupted power, and initiatives under Jal Jeevan Mission, Amrit 2, and PMAY.
Samba: At Rani Suchet Singh Stadium, DDC Chairman Keshav Dutt Sharma unfurled the National Flag and inspected parade contingents from police, IRP, women battalion, NCC, and schools. He urged youth to champion development, environmental protection, and education. Deputy Commissioner Ayushi Sudan praised departmental coordination, and achievers from various sectors were felicitated.
Udhampur: Celebrations at Government PG Degree College, Boys Udhampur, were led by DDC Chairman Lal Chand, who highlighted the district’s progress under projects like NH-244, GMC Udhampur, HADP, and Jal Jeevan Mission. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to service delivery and inclusive development.
Reasi: At General Zorawar Singh Sports Stadium, DDC Chairperson Saraf Singh Nag saluted parade contingents from J&K Police, NCC, and schools. He honoured freedom fighters, paid condolences to recent tragedy victims, and underlined the district’s achievements in infrastructure and rural development.
Ramban: DDC Chairperson Dr. Shamshad Shan led celebrations at District
Police Lines, Ramban, while refraining from cultural programmes in view of the recent Kishtwar tragedy. She stressed unity and patriotism, highlighting developmental achievements.
Kishtwar: Observances at historic Chowgan Ground were marked by simplicity due to the recent cloudburst. DDC Chairperson Pooja Thakur led the ceremony, expressing solidarity with affected families and reaffirming commitment to relief measures.
Rajouri: Despite rain, the District Police Lines ground hosted a grand celebration with DDC Chairperson Advocate Chowdhary Naseem Liyaqat unfurling the flag. He highlighted progress in roads, healthcare, education, and welfare schemes, and urged preservation of communal harmony. Officials and personnel were felicitated for exemplary service.
Across the Jammu division, streets and public spaces were decorated in the national colours, and the celebrations reflected unity, resilience, and collective commitment to nation-building.
