SRINAGAR, Feb 22: The Indian Army has inducted advanced ‘Kamikaze’ drones in Jammu and Kashmir to enhance its counter-terrorism operations and strengthen surveillance along the Line of Control (LoC), officials confirmed on Saturday.
A senior Army official told Rising Kashmir that these newly inducted loitering munitions, developed under the ‘Make in India’ initiative, are capable of identifying, tracking, and neutralizing threats with precision strikes. The deployment comes amid rising cross-border infiltration attempts and an increase in terrorist activities in the region.
Precision Strikes and Tactical Superiority
“These drones provide a real-time tactical advantage by enabling instant intelligence gathering and rapid response to threats,” the official said. “They can hover over a target, assess the situation, and strike with pinpoint accuracy, minimizing collateral damage.”
Equipped with high-resolution cameras and explosive payloads, the drones have been deployed in terror-prone areas and along infiltration routes to eliminate threats before they can strike. The official noted that their day and night operational capabilities make them a crucial asset in counter-terror operations.
“These loitering munitions function seamlessly in harsh weather conditions, including storms, heavy rain, and snowfall—a necessity for J&K’s demanding terrain,” he said.
Game-Changer in Anti-Terror Operations
Security analysts view this move as a significant modernization step for the Army, leveraging cutting-edge technology to combat terrorism. The real-time tracking system enhances surveillance capabilities, allowing security forces to monitor and intercept terrorist movements, preventing escape attempts after attacks.
While the Army has not disclosed the exact number of drones deployed, sources suggest their use has already yielded successful results in thwarting infiltration attempts.
Tensions Along the LoC
Notably, the induction of these drones follows recent tensions along the LoC. On February 21, India and Pakistan held a Brigade Commander-level flag meeting in Poonch district to de-escalate tensions after a series of cross-border firing incidents and an IED attack.
With the induction of Kamikaze drones, the Army aims to strengthen its hold on infiltration-prone areas, ensuring a proactive response to emerging threats.
