Jammu, Jan 3 : In a major crackdown on bovine smuggling, Jammu Police arrested 408 individuals last year in connection with illegal transportation of cattle. As part of its intensified efforts, the police detained eight smugglers under the Public Safety Act (PSA), officials said today.
The operation, named Operation Kamdhenu, saw the registration of 378 FIRs, with 354 vehicles seized and a total of 3,408 bovines rescued.
A police spokesperson confirmed the action, stating that personal files and history sheets had been opened for repeat offenders. In addition, steps were taken to cancel the registration certificates, route permits, and licenses of vehicles involved in frequent smuggling activities.
“A comprehensive database of offenders has been created to strengthen future enforcement measures,” the spokesperson added.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu, Joginder Singh, reiterated the police’s commitment to protecting public sentiments and upholding animal rights. “Our strict measures under Operation Kamdhenu aim to dismantle the bovine mafia and eliminate this menace from the region,” he said.
The ongoing initiative underscores Jammu Police’s resolute approach to curb illegal activities and protect animal welfare.
