Jammu, February 05: In a major breakthrough, Jammu Police have solved
the murder case of Sumit Jandyal, arresting 11 individuals, including
two juveniles, involved in the crime.
On January 21, 2025, at around 1:40 PM, unidentified assailants opened
fire on a man traveling in a red Thar (JK21G/0770) near Jewel Chowk,
before fleeing the scene on a snatched grey Scooty (JK02DL/8834). The
victim, later identified as Sumit Jandyal, was rushed to GMC Jammu by
a team from Nowabad Police Station but was declared dead on arrival.
Cracking the Case: A High-Stakes Investigation
Senior police officers immediately visited the crime scene, and
multiple teams were deployed in different directions. Using human
intelligence and technical analysis, including CCTV footage,
investigators identified the assailants. Given the gravity of the
case, SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh, constituted a Special Investigation
Team (SIT) to track down those responsible.
The SIT detained around 30 suspects and conducted raids across Jammu,
Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. The investigation revealed
that the murder was the result of an old rivalry between Vikas
Slathia, alias Vicky Slathia, and Sumit Jandyal.
The Backstory: A Cycle of Revenge
The enmity traces back to the 2023 murder of Akshay Kumar, allegedly
orchestrated by Vicky Slathia’s group in Ramgarh. Following Akshay’s
murder, a police raid at GMC Kathua led to a deadly shootout,
resulting in the martyrdom of PSI Deepak Sharma and the killing of a
notorious criminal, Vasudev Kumar, alias Shunnu. Seeking revenge for
Vasudev’s death, Vicky Slathia plotted Jandyal’s assassination.
Meticulous Planning and Execution
Harsh Singh, alias Banta, a key associate of Vicky Slathia, was tasked
with assembling a team for the murder. The conspirators rented a room
in Shastri Nagar to plan the execution. Firearms were procured from
outside Jammu and Kashmir, while a black Alto car (JK02AP/6546) was
purchased a week before the murder for ₹1.05 lakh to conduct
reconnaissance.
For four months, the accused closely monitored Jandyal’s movements. On
the day of the attack, the perpetrators executed their plan with
precision.
Breakthrough and Arrests
During the investigation, police recovered the Alto car, an i20
(JK12C/5339), and the snatched Scooty from various locations in Jammu
and Samba. The entire conspiracy has been unraveled, leading to the
arrest of 11 individuals, including the shooters, conspirators, and
those who provided logistical support.
Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused, including
those who played crucial roles in financing and orchestrating the
crime. Investigators are also probing financial transactions linked to
the murder. The main conspirator, who coordinated the assassination
from outside India, has been identified, and steps are being taken for
their extradition.
Jammu Police’s Stand Against Gangsterism
Jammu Police have reiterated their commitment to eradicating organized
crime and have issued a stern warning to criminal elements, stating
that anyone engaging in such activities will face severe consequences.
