The Jammu zone has made significant strides in improving security and combating crime in 2024, with a series of successful operations, increased arrests, and progressive initiatives aimed at fostering peace and stability.

Terrorism Neutralized, Terror Modules Dismantled
One of the most notable achievements this year has been in counter-terrorism efforts, where 14 foreign terrorists were neutralized, and 13 terror modules were busted across the region. The modules were dismantled in various districts, including Rajouri, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi, Doda, and Kathua, effectively crippling networks attempting to destabilize the region.

Crackdown on Anti-National Elements
Authorities also ramped up their crackdown on overground workers (OGWs), with 827 individuals detained in 2024, a sharp increase from the 282 arrested in 2023. Furthermore, 180 people were detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), a notable rise from the 168 detained last year, sending a clear message to anti-national elements in the region.

Rise in Drug Seizures and NDPS Cases
The Jammu zone’s efforts to combat the narcotics trade have seen significant success. In 2024, law enforcement registered 476 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS). Key drug busts included a major heroin haul of 9.99 kg along the Line of Control (LoC) in the Nowshera sector in April, and 33.06 kg of heroin seized in August at the Jammu bus stand. These operations have led to multiple arrests and substantial seizures.

Decline in General Crime
The overall crime rate in Jammu has dropped significantly. A total of 13,163 criminal cases were registered in 2024, down from 15,774 in 2023, demonstrating the effectiveness of ongoing policing and crime prevention strategies.

Reduction in Property and Vehicle Theft
Property thefts, excluding motor vehicle thefts, saw a decline, with 944 cases reported in 2024 compared to 1,321 in 2023. The value of stolen property also decreased from Rs. 18.75 crore to Rs. 14.18 crore. Motor vehicle thefts fell to 507 cases, down from 653 in 2023, with the total value of stolen vehicles dropping to Rs. 6.53 crore. The recovery rate for stolen vehicles also slightly improved to 47.48%.

Bovine Smuggling Cases Drop
Bovine smuggling, a persistent issue in the region, also saw a marked decrease in 2024, with 1,770 cases reported, compared to 2,600 in 2023. Proactive policing and stronger community outreach have been key factors in this decline.

Drug De-addiction Centre Opens
In a major step toward addressing the region’s growing drug abuse issue, a new Drug De-addiction Centre was inaugurated in Jammu. Equipped with modern amenities and staffed by trained professionals, the center offers detoxification, counseling, and skill development programs to help individuals reintegrate into society.

Enhanced Cybercrime Management
The Jammu zone has also focused on combating rising cybercrime. This year, 67 police officers received specialized training to handle cybercrime and online fraud cases. Additionally, 10 new Cyber Cells were established across the region, enabling more effective responses to the growing threat of cyber-related offenses. These efforts have already resulted in the recovery of Rs. 4.75 crore in online fraud cases.

A Safer Jammu: Community and Law Enforcement Collaboration
The achievements of 2024 highlight the success of a comprehensive approach that combines enhanced surveillance, strategic operations, and community engagement. As a result, Jammu continues to see positive outcomes in terms of both security and crime control, creating a safer environment for its residents.
