JeM Terrorist Killed, Three Trapped in Udhampur Forest Encounter Ahead of Amarnath Yatra

JAMMU, Jun 26: A Pakistani terrorist affiliated with Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) was gunned down in an encounter with security forces in the remote Bihali area of Basantgarh in Udhampur district on Thursday, while three of his associates remain trapped in the dense forest, officials said.

The group had been under surveillance for nearly a year and was intercepted by a joint team of the Indian Army and J&K Police. Contact was established early Thursday morning.

“In the ongoing operation by the Indian Army and the J&K Police, one terrorist has been neutralised till now. Operation continues,” said a defence spokesperson.

Inspector General of Police, Jammu Zone, Bhim Sen Tuti, said the terrorists were hiding near the Karoor nullah and were confronted despite foggy weather. Reinforcements have been rushed, and operations continue on the ground.

The encounter comes just a week before the start of the annual Amarnath Yatra, prompting heightened vigilance along the route. Separately, a search operation in the Purmandal area of Samba concluded peacefully on Wednesday night after reports of suspicious activity turned out to be a false alarm.
