J&K Will Have Its Own IPL Team, Promises Minister Satish Sharma

Srinagar, Jan 2: Jammu and Kashmir is set to have its own team in the Indian Premier League (IPL) within the next two years, as announced by Minister for Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma. Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Sharma emphasized the region’s potential for sporting success, particularly in cricket, and highlighted the vast enthusiasm among the local youth.

“There is immense scope and potential among the youth here. Sports is also a way to create employment opportunities for them,” Sharma said, expressing his vision for Jammu and Kashmir to feature prominently in national sports leagues.

In addition to this exciting announcement, Sharma praised the exemplary hospitality of the Kashmiri people during the recent snowfall, which left many tourists stranded. “The hospitality of Kashmiris is unmatched and unparalleled. I don’t think we can find secular people like those in Kashmir anywhere else,” he remarked. He particularly lauded the families who opened their homes to provide food and shelter to tourists, calling them “unsung heroes.”

The minister also assured that the government had made necessary winter preparations, including a sufficient buffer stock of essentials for the next five months. “We have not received any complaints regarding shortages or the non-availability of rations in any area,” he confirmed.

Turning his focus to development, Sharma called for increased support from the Central government to address the financial challenges faced by the region. “J&K is the crown of India, and its people have suffered immensely over the past 30 years. We deserve extra funds to live in comfort,” he stated. Sharma revealed that Chief Minister Omar Abdullah would visit Delhi soon to discuss these financial concerns.

On the subject of sports development, Sharma assured that the issues of Jammu and Kashmir’s 53 recognized Sports Associations would be addressed after consultations with stakeholders. “Their issues will be looked into thoroughly,” he added.
