JAMMU, Oct 27: In a major breakthrough in the ongoing war against drugs, Jammu Police and the Border Security Force (BSF) jointly recovered 5 kilograms of heroin worth ₹35 crore from the Bidhipur Jattan area of the R.S. Pura sector, following a meticulously coordinated overnight operation near the International Border.
Addressing the media, SSP Jammu Joginder Singh said that the BSF had shared a vital input regarding a suspected consignment dropped via drone and that a few individuals were expected to retrieve it. Acting swiftly on the intelligence, a joint operation was launched during the intervening night of October 26–27, and extensive searches were carried out early this morning.
“During the operation, we recovered two packets of narcotics — each containing five smaller packets — making a total of ten packets. The Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) confirmed the substance to be heroin, weighing around five kilograms,” SSP Singh said.
He further added that a case has been registered, and the investigation is underway to trace the forward and backward linkages of the smuggling network. “This year alone, Jammu Police has arrested 40 individuals linked to narcotics smuggling. We have also identified 21 persons involved in the broader chain as part of our sustained crackdown on drug networks,” he noted.
Officials said the consignment is suspected to be a drone drop from Pakistan into Indian territory, intended for further distribution through local conduits. The case has been registered under FIR No. 211/2025 at Police Station R.S. Pura under sections 8/21/22 of the NDPS Act. The investigation is being led by Inspector Ravi Singh Parihar, SHO R.S. Pura, assisted by SI Ranbir Singh, Incharge BPP Baspura, under the supervision of SP Headquarters Jammu and the overall guidance of SSP Jammu Joginder Singh.
The recovery underscores the growing menace of drone-based narcotics smuggling across the border and highlights the strengthened coordination between Jammu Police and BSF to dismantle trans-border drug syndicates.
Jammu Police has urged citizens, especially those living near the border, to remain vigilant and share any information regarding illegal drug activities. “With continued public cooperation, sincere efforts are being made to build a drug-free and crime-free society,” the SSP said.
