Ladakh Declares 52 Villages as Areas Adjoining ALC for Reservation Benefits

Leh, June 29: The Union Territory of Ladakh administration has formally declared 52 villages as Areas Adjoining the Actual Line of Control (ALC) under the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation Act, 2004, as amended by the Ladakh Reservation (Amendment) Regulation, 2025.

The notification, issued after the recommendations of a One-Member Commission chaired by Hon’ble Justice Bansi Lal Bhat, includes 18 revenue villages in Leh district (along the LAC and LoC) and 34 in Kargil district (along the LoC). This move will allow residents of these areas to access reservation benefits under the amended Ladakh Reservation Rules.

The Commission submitted its final report in December 2024, which was then reviewed by an internal committee of the UT Administration before being formally approved. The detailed list has been published in the Official Gazette.

Officials said the measure is a step towards addressing the socio-economic challenges faced by people living in strategically sensitive areas and strengthening government outreach and welfare.
