SRINAGAR, Jul 27: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday addressed the Mega Alumni Meet–2025 at the University of Kashmir, calling upon distinguished alumni to actively contribute to the development of higher education and the broader progress of Jammu and Kashmir.
The event was attended by Chief Justice of India, Justice B.R. Gavai; Union Minister Kiren Rijiju; several Supreme Court judges including Justices Surya Kant, Vikram Nath, PS Narasimha, Pankaj Mithal, and Rajesh Bindal; Chief Justice of J&K and Ladakh High Court, Justice Arun Palli; former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah; and other eminent alumni and dignitaries.
Highlighting the impact of former students, the LG said, “Alumni is not just a network of former students, but a network of human potential dedicated to nation-building.”
He urged alumni to support young students through internships, mentorship, and career guidance, emphasizing that their experience and reach in various fields could significantly strengthen the institutions in J&K and contribute to lasting peace and prosperity in the region.
“University of Kashmir must create an institutional mechanism that enables alumni to give back to the university,” the LG added, stressing that alumni involvement is a key driver of academic and regional growth.
Sinha also praised the University for its recent A++ NAAC accreditation and its efforts in implementing the National Education Policy 2020, citing initiatives like Design Your Own Degree as exemplary models for educational reform nationwide.
The event also honoured notable alumni including Dr. Karan Singh, former Union Minister; Ghulam Nabi Azad, former J&K Chief Minister; MP Mian Altaf Ahmad; and judges of the J&K High Court.
Faculty members, administrative heads, former vice chancellors, and students from across departments attended the meet, which celebrated the 77-year legacy of the university and its contribution to national growth.
