Jammu, Feb 17: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday appointed Shantmanu, IAS (Retd.), as the State Election Commissioner for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a notification issued by the General Administration Department (GAD), the appointment has been made under sub-section (3) of Section 36 of the Jammu and Kashmir Panchayati Raj Act, 1989.
As per the notification, Shantmanu shall hold office for a period of five years or until he attains the age of 70 years, whichever is earlier. The appointment will come into effect from the date he assumes charge.
The government further stated that the detailed terms and conditions of his appointment will be notified separately.
