Massive Search Operation Launched in Jammu’s Kanachak After Satellite Phone Signal Detected

Jammu, Jan 11: Security forces on Sunday launched a massive search operation in the Kanachak area near the International Border after intelligence agencies detected satellite phone communication suspected to be linked to terrorists, officials said.

The communication was traced to a Thuraya satellite device, following which a joint search operation was initiated by the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Army, officials said.

Kanachak, located on the outskirts of Jammu city, lies barely one kilometre from the International Border and has earlier been used by terrorists as an infiltration route from across the border.

The entire area has been cordoned off and a large-scale search operation is underway to trace the suspects, officials added.

Security forces have also intensified search and cordon operations across Jammu district, including high-altitude areas, to track down and neutralise nearly three dozen terrorists believed to be operating in the region, they said.

Officials said the heightened security measures are part of proactive steps being taken by security agencies to ensure peaceful celebrations during the upcoming Republic Day.
