JAMMU, Sep 28: In a historic development for Jammu and Kashmir, Mithun Manhas has been declared as the new President of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), an announcement that has evoked widespread celebration across the Union Territory.
Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh hailed the appointment as a proud moment, calling it a matter of immense joy for the people of J&K. Taking to social media platform X, he wrote, “A momentous occasion to celebrate! Mithun Manhas has been officially declared as the new President of the ‘Board of Control for Cricket in India’ (BCCI).”
Expressing personal pride, Dr. Singh added, “What a providential Sunday for the erstwhile district of Doda, one of the remotest parts of Jammu & Kashmir, which incidentally also happens to be my own home district. Within a gap of a few hours, first a daughter of Kishtwar, Sheetal, shines out as World Champion and soon thereafter a son of Bhaderwah, Mithun, stands atop.”
The news has triggered a wave of jubilation in the cricketing fraternity of Jammu, with players, fans, and local sports associations extending congratulations to Manhas, who has long been celebrated as one of the most accomplished cricketers from the region.
Manhas, known for his significant contribution to Indian domestic cricket and his longstanding association with the game, now takes charge of the country’s premier cricketing body at a time when Indian cricket continues to enjoy global dominance.
