Jammu, Jan 6: Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the new rail division in Jammu, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah assured that the direct rail link to Kashmir would not result in economic losses for Jammu. Instead, he emphasized that the development would bring significant economic gains, including job creation, enhanced trade, and a boost to tourism.
“This is a historic moment for Jammu & Kashmir. The people of Jammu have long awaited their own railway division, and today, that dream has been realized,” Omar stated during the event.
Reassuring the public, he highlighted the anticipated economic benefits of the new rail connectivity. “We foresee a surge in trade and tourism that will strengthen Jammu’s economy. Our administration is committed to ensuring that Jammu fully reaps the rewards of this milestone,” he said.
The Chief Minister also underscored the employment opportunities the new railway division would create. “With control and coordination based in Jammu, local recruitment will be prioritized. This will open doors for our youth and invigorate the region’s economy,” he added.
The inauguration also celebrated the connection of the Srinagar-Katra rail line, a project expected to revolutionize travel in the region. Omar noted that this connectivity would address persistent challenges, such as disruptions to winter flights and high airfare, making travel more reliable and affordable.
The event saw the participation of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, Union Minister of State Dr. Jitendra Singh, Leader of the Opposition Sunil Sharma, and other dignitaries. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated the new rail division, marking another step toward advancing connectivity and development in the Union Territory.
