Omar Abdullah Inaugurates 69th National School Games in Srinagar

SRINAGAR, Oct 6: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday inaugurated the 69th National School Games at the TRC Football Ground, ceremonially kicking a football to mark the beginning of the event.

Addressing the participants, Abdullah said sports play a vital role in fostering unity, friendship, and understanding among youth from diverse regions of the country.

“Sports build bridges of unity and friendship. I am delighted to be here at the inauguration of the 69th National School Games,” he said, encouraging athletes to embrace the spirit of sportsmanship.

Abdullah assured the visiting athletes of full government support, emphasizing that their comfort, safety, and requirements, including warm clothing, would be ensured during the games.

“If you face any inconvenience, do not hesitate to approach us. We will do everything possible to make your stay comfortable,” he said, urging participants to focus on enjoying the experience.

A total of 30 teams from various states and Union Territories will compete across football, wushu, taekwondo, and table tennis, held at six venues in Srinagar. The Chief Minister stressed that “winning is not as important as taking part”, highlighting the importance of enthusiasm and participation over results.

The inauguration was attended by Minister for Youth Services and Sports Satish Sharma, Advisor to the CM Nasir Aslam Wani, MLA Lal Chowk Sheikh Ahsan Ahmed, and senior officials from the Sports Department and J&K Sports Council.

The event underscores Jammu and Kashmir’s ongoing efforts to promote sports and youth engagement, fostering national integration and camaraderie among young athletes from across India.
